Commercially appealing

So click the above picture.
Wait a sec.
watch.
When they start dancing click on it and play!

it's almost too fun.

This took forever to make.
no real problems along the way.
I kept a clear head and kept on trucking.

When ever i brought in movie clips from another project and then placed the two projects together it got a little messy.
I just had to rename some stuff and boom!

Cool.

This may explode faces.....constantly

Okay, Initially I wanted to create an interactive sex game with plenty of .hitTests for the kids.

But then I decided it would be difficult to be bipartisan in the creation of the game and there was no way to make one without offending someone or going to hell.

So then I resulted to the next best thing (possibly the first best thing):

Interactive Dancing Drum Machine 2.0!

My goal is to turn the keyboard into a interactive instrument. Each key will be assigned a different noise. It will work very much like a drum machine. The kicker though, is that upon each key pressed a dancer will bust a move corresponding with the noise. The noises and the moves will be completely  sporadic.  I plan  to have different themes of noises and moves to choose from and assign to their dancer. So, not only is the is the user composing the fresh beats, but also choreographing the latest dance trends.

I also plan to divid the keys on the keyboard to two sepeate dancers. The letter keys will primarly be for the dancer on the left, while the number pad keys will be used to control the dancer on the right. I did this to hopefully encourage two player participation. I mean you can dance alone but it takes two to tango.

zing!

Here is an example of what the finished piece might look like:

Here is my inspiration for my awesome!

id="clip">

I had a lot of difficulty with this bad boy.
I eventually got it but this is far from my ideal concept.
Originally I wanted to be able to use the number-pad keyboard to control and deliver most of the phat beats.
However coding for that is insane.

And very frustrating as DaKota and Santanna unfortunately witnessed.

rotflmao!!!!

.......hmm

but in anycase this is the sex beats drum machines it works but it is not up to my . of face melting

Wait yes it is!

i fixed it.... use those damn number keys playa!

tune toys

This website is basically bad ass.

I checked out the Web tones portions and found this to be  particularly interesting.  Supposedly you type in a website and it takes the HTML information and converts that into a musical composition. You then choose a various things for it such as the pitch, the key it plays in, and even the instrument. After that you enter the website and listen to that websites internal jam. I think this is an awesome idea especially if the compositions are really drawn from the websites code. However I don't know if I'm smart enough to really check that and make sure that the jams are really being drawn from the website.
I listened to my blogs internal song and was a little disappointed... I was expecting more roaring guitar solos and double bass. However it was still a sexy tune.  Each and every website that i tried out had a very sporadic yet unified (this was resolved in setting the key initially) sound to it.  Very interesting indeed.

Lets just sit and think

This interactive project was a blast. Honestly I thought it was going to suck at first. I really dislike group assignments and I didn't think we we're going to get a good reaction from the student body, and therefore thought the entire process was going to stink.

But wait.

We had a surplus of enthusiastic students ready and willing to help us out and score some sweet ass photos.  And by sweet as photos I mean really well edited and hilarious pictures. the project was a success.

I think a big part of it was my team. we stuck together, communicated really well and worked easily with each other. The project felt very natural and was even a lot of fun.

I like the idea of making art for a wide array of people and getting them involved even.  Each picture has the similar backgrounds and even characters but the inclusion of the student  participant adds a whole new life to the piece.  They got to be the directors of their own photo and added personality.

The other team (teamweakerthan) had the same things going for them. their project was all about the personality, or reaction, of the student participant. I think the best part about both teams' projects is to be able to go to a blog and see all of the photos as collection rather than the student only getting to see their own picture.

I would like to incorporate the student body into some more of my projects for maximum inter-activeness It's definitely challenging getting the enthusiasm and participation of the students but well worth it.

For the presidential campaign project I was in charge of the masks

Here's me cutting

This project went over a lot better than I ever imagined. I was expecting only a few people to show up but instead we got 50 billion thousand. It was kind of crazy during the photo shoot but the pay off was worth it I got to meet a lot a cool folks.

Editing the pictures kind of sucked... but then again there are children starving.. so i'll shut my mouth.

Holy hell

Here's what I came up with.

Everything about this was a pain in the ass to do.
but mainly I had problems with my variable.
I figured out how to get it to go up consecutively but I couldn't make different scores have different effects.
But the point was after annoying the audience long enough with a terrible solo you gradually get different sorts of objects thrown at you.

kind of like this:

anyways I added sound because i figured I should to something unexpected to make up for the fact I could not get the other junk to work.

Peace out Im sleepin

IF I can't do this right THEN does that mean I fail?

Sup biscuit heads.

I'd like everyone to meet Bill.

Bill loves beer to such degree that he has to take his shirt off or he'll get sweaty.

Yeah I know right pretty damn awesome.

The only problem is I tried using a counter and it didn't necessarily work. I mean I could tell that it was recognizing the code but when the counter equaled 5 beers consumed I wanted it to play the puke scene. Instead it just would stop completely. I'm not sure what was up. In any case I rigged it so that way the right most beer triggers him to puke even if it's his first one.

Which will work for now.

And that's about it. I don't know what else to say really.

except that Bill's pretty bad ass.

onPress.gotoAndPlay("Tarnished Gonads");

Well Sup Everybody?
You'll notice right of the bat there is some new comers. I added Repulsica and Piss Kid Paul, and as always, there is still Lil Zacky and the son-of-bitch-asshole: Chris. I still have aspirations of putting Chris in Denim. but because the ninja's animations were all hand-drawn I would have to completely redo and redraw that character and that would suck. I still plan on doing it... it'll just have to be addressed later.

I had infinite trouble with pathing. I beleive this is for two reasons.
1. I'm Retarded.
2. We did kind of go over it in the last 3 minutes in class and by that time all I could think of was whether I wanted beef and cheese frozen burritos for lunch or corn dogs...

I ended up going with the corn dogs.

I mean nearly all of my movie clips have multiple moving parts in them. So I mean I know I'm close and Im sure once I learn how to path my workspace will be a lot more organized. but in the mean time I can fake it.

Lets see what else.

Oh yeah I fixed up the timing in some parts and polished the ninja's technique. I also tinkered with the background:

I thought this was repulsive

and I though this was okay but I still enjoy my initial scape the most. Mostly because I chose that image first then based all my colors and character compositions off of it. I dunno I'm hoping the addition of Paul and Repulsica will pull some of the attention away from the confusing background and into the meat of the image.

I realize this is the longest statement I've written thus far.

shit.

I need to get some hobbies.

Boo-yah achieved

Chris is such an asshole.

Yo peep this:

I think this is alot more sucsexful than my last entry.
I did alot of changing.
1. I added a sweet ass background
2. I got rid of the ghost and replaced it with Lil. Zacky.
3. The ninja know some new moves. In fact because he is constantly moving the registration points for rollover and roll our are constantly changing. This allows you to create some pretty sweet combos. For instance if you place the mouse over his left leg where he's got the black ninja sock thing going on he'll do a lunge punch. Fucking fierce! I know!... but check this out: If you place the mouse over the Ninja's balls (which I know you will) and move it ever so slightly to the left you can make Chris do a tight kick punch combo. It kinda looks like a Dance move..... only malicious.
Anyways I don't want to give everything away.

quiz 2

1. What is the difference between frame events and event handlers?
A frame event is a event that takes place over a certain frame number.
For instance if I wanted something to play at frame 2 I'd make a frame event of that movie clip that'll read a lil something something like:
gotoAndPlay(2)

however an event handler is a little more specific and organized. I could name a specific part of my timeline and then refer to that part for later use. this is important if you decided to add and insert frames later on. If I was using a simple frame event and then inserted frames later... chances are my playback wouldn't be exactly as desired. However if I would have named that event Say "the guy takes a dookie" No matter how many frames I add when I type

gotoAndPlay(theguytakesadookie) you already know what's up. It'll still work and play where expected

Flash Failures...

Let me first address my successes before I move onto my failures. This is my finished digital landscape. I really didn't change anything except the looping of the clouds. I made them start and stop in the same place for seamless playback. That was the main issue that bothered me. I do plan on adding more on my own time and possibly making this an interactive tale of a jet pack romance. But given the time constraints of this class and my recent 103 fever that will just have to wait.

moving on

Dude I thought I understood action scripting but just take a look at this bull shit:

I know right?
The weakest shit ever.
I know Im using the right lingo as far as functions go because essentially they're doing what I want them to do but I can't control and finesse them to my or Jill's standards (mostly Jills).
For instance the Ghost works and becomes more transparent and ghosty when rolled over, but the fierce ninja, when rolled over, doesn't disappear like he's supposed to. Instead, he just flashes like girls gone wild. Which I guess is kinda fresh and definitely looks menacing. But I wasn't going for menacing... I was going for elusive.
And lord only knows that the hell is going on with that fucking head.
He's supposed to rotate more and more each time you press on him. Instead....well...you've seen.

The x and y didn't work either. I tried to set them to the ninja so when you clicked on him he would dodge you. but instead he got too carried away and would just blast to the far right of the screen no matter what number I put in for the coordinates.

I think it's safe to say I at least know how not to action script.

stay up.

Rock

Lets see.
I had to redo every bit of animation i had before because the first time my alignment was off. Now that it's on my site it still seems I have some white space.... but that could be HTML fucking with me,

I used the Shape tween and masking techniques to create the doorway to porn. That gave me some difficulties but i persevered and worked my way through them.

As for the content coming out of the door. I didn't want anything too x rated and awesome because i do plan on showing this to my momma some day. however i did manage to have a golden dinosaur come out of the door that maybe somewhat resembles a penis.

Assignment write up! (sorry jill)

So I started animating my animation! I was a little scared at first. I called my mom she gave me some much needed encouragement. See when she was growing up she didn't have things like the internet or animation, so I should be thankful and man up and start motion tweening.

I plan to have a lot more going on than what I got so far.

Basically what I got so far is a landscape with Clouds moving and a Jet Pack Kid flying around and having a blast.

I had some trouble working with the guide layers. My rocketeer would snap on to the line created.. but not follow it. It was pretty frustrating. Also when he did follow it he didn't folllow it with his head leading. so he looked goofy. Also something was off when I imported it i think? My .swf file is showing what's going on out of the viewing area.

All in all I'm happy with how it's turning out.

Rock
1)What is the difference between a symbol and a instance?

A Symbol is an original object. It's like the daddy and the instances of that symbol are like his beautiful children, they have the share the same amount of strain on the program, and even look the same. Thats why if you alter the daddy symbol (i.e digitally kick him in the nuts) his baby's will change too.

2)what is the difference between a frame that has a empty circle or a difference between a frame with a black circle?

An empty circle is a blank keyframe. It's completely empty. While a Black circle frame is a Keyframe. You use keyframes to acknowledge points in a certain time frame. For instance to have a Jet Pack Kid move from one side of the screen to the other I would use two keyframes. One where he is positioned on the left side of the screen and the other key frame where he's positioned on the other.

3)What are two of the main reason's people use flash?

1: to get chicks
2: Because you can animate easily for the web.
3: It uses vector imaging so you can directly work with your Illustrator Files

4)You can only motion tween a symbols!

5)How can you tell the differne between a shape and a symbol
When you select a symbol a box shows up around the outside of it. However when you select a shape it looks all static-y with no box around it.

Revised

Check it.

I kept the taste the same I just changed a couple of ingredients.

Before I was using kroger brand now Im using the name brand expensive stuff.

Analogies aside, I changed the warp pipes to go along with the piping I illustrated earlier. I kept them green because they went well with the color scheme I had going on.

The main thing that was upsetting me before was the ground.
I was going to have it look like a circuit board but i thought that would be....penis (spent 3 minutes trying to come up with a better word....and failed)

Instead I decided to go with the multi texture/ media that seems to be the strength of my piece. So I tore up some paper and water colored it and scanned it to make a stone like texture. I have an arsenal of metaphors for this decision if my concept is in danger of being questioned....so back off. But mainly I just thought it was something that was aesthetically pleasing.

The Mario sky is staying. I tried some other options but i just liked this one the best. I think it's because it was one of the first elements I added and thusly* determined the color scheme from there on out.

* hell yeah thusly is a word

Discussion for tuesday

A.
So I thought it would be cool to do something like .Beksinski.

B. But because That would take about 6 years I figured I'd go a slightly different route.

Initially I wanted to create a metaphor for the internet and it's infinite nature. I wanted a space where anything could exist. I decided to add some humorous elements, like the jet pack kid , The mario warp pipes and clouds and such. I used one point perspective to create the two buildings which are symbols for how the internet is used. The building closest to the viewer has many complex pipes and wires connecting to it. It also says "porn" on the door. The Building in the foreground with only one solitary tube running to it is everything else.

As far as technique goes I started with the city horizon line. I hand drew that and scanned it in. Found the Mario sky on the internet. I drew the buildings and on the computer and collaged the jetpack kid old school style and scanned him in.

I really am not to thrilled with my composition. I wish I had more time. I've been tinkering and re- tinkering for quite some time and am still not completely happy. I'll submit as is and hopefully get some feedback that will lead me in the right direction.

C.
So I'm reading this stuff about the history of net.art while cooking some spaghetti. I nearly burnt my meat balls because I was so enthralled with this article. Actually I did find the article more interesting than some of the net art itself.
I liked how the name and media came to be by accident. Cosic was trying to read a corrupted email and the only intelligible couple of words was net.art. I think it's weird to imagine the genesis of any other medium. A dude slips in some bird shit realizes that it made a cool mark and then BOOM painting was born.

I think the hot topic for debate is the power or lack there of in net.art. Does net.art have a future? Or a present for that matter considering this article was written back in 2000?
I think the huge problem with net art is that it started out as Avant garde. And it's kind of hard to profess exactly what I mean by saying that. It's just that all other art forms have a way to appeal to the masses. An uneducated person can look at a painting and may not understand the subject material or concept but can at least appreciate the aesthetics (the ooo that's pretty effect). Where as anyone approaching net.art unknowingly would probably think "Shit fuck the internet's broke!"

I don't know lot of it is pretty hard to stomach and I just cant see unpalatable art going anywhere.

gustav is a fucking bitch.

Homework for 8/28

A:
So I guess i'll start with an icebreaker discussion question, you know to get the juices flowing...
Anybody get that second site to work?
Or is that just an example of net art? A webpage that seems to be down? Post Modern websites. It's like Jackson Pollock with code. Fucking Genius.

In any case. Im not too sure If I feel that web art should be considered a valid form of art. Mainly because it's not something that's tangible. The final question in the interview asks how net.art can be purchased and owned if anyone can view it. Cosic's answer was that it was just merely a way of acknowledging a relationship between the museum and the artist. That seems pretty pointless in my opinion and also maybe explains why net.art has reduced in popularity at the Venice Biennale from 2001 to 2008.

B:

I reviewed various pieces from Expressioncity: Amophoscapes series 1. (2002) This series was found on the SoundToy's website. Created by a dude named Stanza?

Most of the pieces on this site were living paintings that constantly grew and changed. Some of the pieces were interactive where you could click and the painting would react in a different way- Causing the colors to move in a different way or even stop all together. What I thought was interesting about these works was that they evolved. each time I checked out a piece it was never the same as the previous time I viewed it.
Another thing that interested me was the use of sound. These pieces were soundtracked by ambient noises.
I'm kind of torn between how I feel about this. I love the Idea of putting sound to visual art. I feel when done correctly the two work well together: creating a powerful piece. However this series of net.artwork just used ambient noises. And If i listen to ambient-repeating noises for too long I want to bash my brains out with a rusty shovel.

All in all the Expressioncity series was interesting but still felt like novelty art.

C:
1; I don't think the introduction of digital media to the art world has changed the perception of art, but just merely expanded it to new grounds. New grounds where the same principles that have governed art before in the past still apply. Principles such as aesthetics and composition, Concept, and so forth. Digital media is just another medium just as photography or printmaking.

2: I think the work of old school digi-artists can be compared with the work of present day digi-artists. The real main difference is the technology allowed and the possibilities that more sophisticated technology brings to the art board. In order to compare the two successfully, one would have to have a good knowledge of history and what was available at the time as far as software and so forth. I think in the future holograms will probably be employed into the digital art scene.

3: I think I like the definition internet based art. However, I would like to discredit net art as being a real form of art. As widely available as net art is it is also just as restricted. If the power goes out, a server fails, or if even a viewer doesn't have the necessary soft ware (like me and shock wave) to view the art it is worthless. On the flip side it also has the potential to be viewed world wide overnight, without having to go through the entire gallery scene.

4: I think it would be interesting to find a way to merge the old school ways of presenting art with the new school. For example I would set up a fancy classic gallery scene with wine, drunk floozies, and canvas's on the wall, but then bring in the Digital by using projectors to project onto these canvas's. That way they had the physicality of a painting, but the futuristicness of a digital creation.

5: I would just rather not accept them honestly. I just cant see them as being anything other than novelty. (I know Im going to get my ass kicked for this one)

worthless

Finding out if this works.

The obligatory first post!

After a few cheap shots to the nose, some hair pulling, and a textbook full nelson I finally submitted and created this damn blog. This as the title reads is my first post. I hope to have at least three to five more in the future.
